Catholic Wedding Greeting by the Priest or Deacon

If he has not done so at the church entrance before the procession, the Catholic priest or deacon will greet you once the wedding procession has reached the front of church.

The liturgy will open with the presiding minister leading the community in making the sign of the cross, an ancient gesture to mark the beginning of Christian prayer. The sign of the cross recalls that we come to this place marked by the sign of Christ, first given to us in baptism. We belong to Christ and our lives can expect to follow the pattern of his life, centered around the mystery of his death and resurrection.

The presiding minister will then greet all those present, expressing his desire that God’s grace and peace to be with them.

The community will respond, “And with your spirit.”
