At one time or another every couple has to deal with conflict in marriage. Everyone has the occasional disagreement. Sometimes these disagreements can lead to heated fights and long-lasting anger. Feelings get hurt. It is easy to bury it for a short time, but eventually everyone has to deal with disagreements. Sometimes this causes distance between couples and a growing sense of cynicism. It is truly unfortunate but in some marriages, conflict can become so great and so frequent that a relationship ends in divorce. Overcoming conflict is an essential skill for couples to learn to develop a marriage that will keep them together for life.

You’ve probably had a fight or two with your partner, right? Sometimes these conflicts can go on for days or continue to be complete unresolved. What do you do? How do you confront each other without always leading to yelling and slamming doors? What can you do to make those conversations productive? How can you grow through the conflict?

Resolving Conflict in Marriage eRetreat

In this Together for Life Online eRetreat you will explore your own style of conflict resolution and our preference for dealing with conflict when it occurs in your marriage. You will also learn some conflict resolution strategies and tips for growing in your marriage despite disagreements. You and your partner will be prompted with advice and exercise in the following sessions:

  • Session 2: How to Grow Your Marriage Despite Conflict
  • Session 3: Conflict Resolution Strategies
  • Session 4: Conflict Resolution Case Study

Every other day you will get an email with a link to each session. These sessions offer an opportunity to learn about conflict in marriage, an conflict resolution exercises to complete with your partner, and questions for reflection. Going through each exercise together with your spouse or fiance will help you prepare for and work through conflicts when the arise. When you get the email you can forward it to your partner ahead of time or sit down together to complete each session together. Some of the exercises will require you to download, print, and complete separately for discussion.
