The concluding rite in a Catholic wedding helps the assembly transition from the intensity of the liturgical celebration to the larger world that is waiting just beyond the Church’s doors. Marriage vows have been made; now they must be lived.
If the form of the celebration is Matrimony within Mass, then the concluding rite begins after communion. If it has been celebrated without Mass, then the concluding rite begins after the nuptial blessing with a special recitation of the Lord’s Prayer. Either way, the concluding rite includes a closing blessing by the presider and then a wedding recessional from the worship area.
